Idaten Deities Episode 3: A 'Nickel vs Rin' Epic Showdown

Episode 3 of Idaten Deities is just as wild, if not more, than the first two episodes from last week. Continuing the trend of beautiful colors and incredible fighting animations, Rin vs Nickel gives us just a glimpse of just how powerful Rin truly is.

Rin’s Backstory Explained Perfectly

Rin as a child, Idaten Deities Episode 3

One of the best parts about Idaten Deities is that it doesn’t need to give us in-depth backstories. It just needs to give us enough to know about everyone and what’s going on. In episode 3, the series executes this flawlessly with Rin.

We know she wasn’t a fighter in her earlier years of being an Idaten. In fact, she was the total opposite. But as time progressed, and all the demons were gone, she trained relentlessly for 350 years. After Prontea became the first Idaten she fully trained, it was the first time Rin actually smiled. She likely never stopped training, and we know Hayato only has ~80 years behind him.

Rin’s Power Is On Another Level

In episode 3, Ysley explains how Dr. Obami and company are able to track where Rin, Hayato, and the rest, are. During the meeting, Nickel confidently thinks that she could take on Rin, so she was chosen to fight her.

Yeah, that was a bad move on Nickel’s part.

Nickel, Idaten Deities Episode 3

Nickel is flown out to where the group is. She jumps down surprising everyone. And, Hayato being Hayato, walks up to her talking smack. Nickel quickly disposes of Hayato before Rin steps in to fight. And calling it a “one-sided fight” doesn’t do it justice.

Despite Rin having her neck skewered and finger chopped off by Nickel, she quickly regenerates as if it’s no big deal. In fact, Rin isn’t even touched the rest of the entire fight. Not only that, but she doesn’t even move!

What happens next after this screenshot… Well, I’m just going to leave you, the reader, to go and watch the episode to see what happens. All that needs to be said is that the demons have every right to be terrified of Rin.

What We Learned

While the highlight of the episode was definitely focused on Nickel and Rin’s fight, there are other important events taking place.

For one, characters such as Nickel, Piscalat, and Miku are demons that have taken on a human form. This is why Rin even asked Nickel who she was in the middle of the fightas she’s never come across a demon in human form. Ysley comes to the conclusion that Dr. Obami is behind the experimentations that he erased memories so he could control them.

Perhaps this is what he was trying to accomplish in Episode 1.

We also learn that Ysley and Prontea are working together on something sleazy. While that hasn’t been explained yet, we learn that Ysley and Prontea don’t seem to be characters that the viewers can 100% trust as of just yet.
