World's End Harem Episode 1 Is Finally Here and Heavily Censored

World’s End Harem anime returned on January 7, 2022, with a re-broadcast of its episode 1 after it got postponed back in October 2021. The official notice from the franchise announced that the series was delayed so that viewers could have a “better experience“. With that in mind, it is safe to say that the animation was still lacking and that I was expecting a bit more from the series. We knew that the series would contain some explicit scenes and that those would be censored (which some fans already saw during the special screening of the first episode). But, I have to say that the intensity and type of censorship ruined the overall watching experience.

As you can see in the image above, Mira Suou’s chest was heavily censored, making the screen almost entirely black. Since the show is set in the future, maybe they tried to go with something that looks like a glitch? Unfortunately, it doesn’t look that good and is not the typical type of censorship you can see in anime these days. Fans are already complaining online about the censorship, even going so far as to give it low ratings (at the moment over 60% of ratings on Crunchyroll are 1 star).

Mira Suou and Reito

Episode 1 of World’s End Harem introduced Reito Mizuhara, the main character of the series. He has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and since there was no cure, he had to spend 5 years in cold sleep to receive treatment once it was ready. When he wakes up, Mira Suou, a girl who looks like Erisa Tachibana, his love interest, is beside him. He discovered that the Men Killer virus killed almost all of the men while he was asleep. According to Mira, she will be the one to take care of Reito since he is one of the five men who happened to be immune to the MK virus. Since there are only five men, it means that humankind is in danger. Since there are close to no males, reproduction is almost impossible. Mira clearly stated that in order to save humanity, Reito needs to have as many childer as he can.

I can’t help but think that Mira and Erisa are connected to each other because of their appearances. What’s more, Mira was chosen to be the one to look after Reito. That said, the anime made a good portrayal of how loyal Reito is to Erisa. Even though the offers he has been given are very tempting ones, he keeps refusing all of them. The question is, how long will he be able to last.

Every offer Reito gets comes with a scene that has to be somewhat censored. Thus, the black bars are everpresent. This is only the start of the show, so I’m worried about the censorship in scenes that will be a little bit more extreme.

Watching episode 1 of World’s End Harem anime really made me why are the only men who are immune to MK virus are the ones who had Cellular Sclerosis?

Synopsis

The time is near future-Tokyo, Japan in 2040. Reito, a young man suffering from an intractable disease, vows to reunite with his childhood friend Erisa and decides to “cold sleep” to cure his illness. When he wakes up five years later, the world was undergoing a major transformation. The MK (Male Killer) virus kills 99.9% of men on the planet. The ground was a super harem with 5 billion women for every 5 men. Only five men, “Numbers,” are resistant to the MK virus. One of them, Reito, is required to “mate” for the survival of the remaining women and humankind. Harem life waiting for the world after the pandemic. At the same time, Reito is involved in a global conspiracy over Numbers. Can he overcome the temptation and save the world?
