Akebi’s Sailor Uniform episode 9 sees the girls out shopping! In preparation for the athletics festival, Akebi and her friends head to a mall to buy materials. There, they discover more about each other and get into a bit of trouble. Let’s talk about what went down in a spoiler-filled discussion.
A day at the mall
Akebi joins her friends Erika, Usagihara, and Tomono in heading to the mall. Akebi’s Sailor Uniform episode 9 has the benefit of getting to place these girls in a setting outside of school. It allows viewers to see these characters outside their element, and is a refreshing change of pace for the show.
There, the girls get to bond over the things they enjoy doing at the mall. They go to the grocery, to the children’s play area, to the food court, with all of them getting excited over one thing or another. Seeing the four have fun together really hammers home the fact that these are ordinary girls enjoying some time out with each other. Especially in the current times we live in where many countries are still stifled by pandemic related measures, this aspect of the episode effectively serves as an escape from the bleak reality we may find ourselves in and can serve as a reminder of what fun it was to get to spend the day out with friends.
The missing bookmark
A twist in the tale of Akebi’s Sailor Uniform episode 9 comes when Tomono loses her bookmark. A certified bookworm, Tomono explains to Akebi early on in the episode how much the bookmark means to her. It was handmade by her mother, and she’s been using it since she was a child. So when it goes missing halfway through the episode, she is understandably distressed by this.
The four girls look everywhere searching for it, eventually finding it tied to railing along with a balloon. All seems to be saved, when misfortune strikes once again, as a gust of wind propels the balloon into the air. Thankfully, the balloon gets saved by a wayward tree branch, but that poses yet another problem, as the girls now have to find a way to get to the branch.
Fortunately, the girls are able to find a way to do just this. With the power of friendship and teamwork (along with some lower body strength), the girls are able to get Tomono just high enough to get the balloon. The day is saved thanks to Akebi’s ability to think on the fly and her dedication to her friends. The conflict in this episode is rather short and seemingly inconsequential, but it brought a source of tension that added to the story in an otherwise smooth sailing episode.
Dancing in the rain
Akebi’s Sailor Uniform episode 9 ends with the girls dancing in the rain. Once it starts to pour, Erika, Usagihara, and Tomono all run to seek shelter. But upon seeing Akebi freely frolic in the drizzling downpour, they all cheerfully join her.
Is it a surefire way to get sick the day after? Sure. But when it comes to fun with friends, those are the risks you’ve got to take!
In all seriousness, Akebi’s Sailor Uniform once again treats viewers to charming and heartfelt episode that is so cozy and comforting to watch. Some may say nothing really happens in this show, but each episode offers up the best and most endearing sort of nothing that there is to watch. Viewers surely can’t wait to see where this athletics festival storyline goes moving forward, and surely they won’t have to wait too long to see it come.
