Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia revealed a new pre-broadcast trailer, confirmed Queen Bee will perform the ending theme, and revealed new key art ahead of its July 4 premiere.

The historical anime, produced by Science SARU, will debut with a one-hour special featuring its first two episodes before moving to its regular weekly broadcast schedule. The new trailer previews the ending song “STAR” a new track by QUEEN BEE written specifically for the series.

Based on Tomato Soup’s award-winning manga A Witch’s Life in Mongol, the anime is set during the 13th-century Mongol Empire and follows Sitara, a young girl who survives a brutal fate by relying on knowledge rather than force. After losing everything to the empire’s expansion, she infiltrates the royal court in pursuit of revenge, where her fate becomes intertwined with Töregene, a woman who harbors her own hatred toward the empire.

The series has already earned international recognition before its broadcast, receiving a selection in the Official Competition TV Films category at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2026. The original manga recently also won the Grand Prize in the Comic Division at the 55th Japan Cartoonists Association Awards.

Queen Bee vocalist Avu-chan described the ending theme as inspired by the protagonist’s determination:

Revenge. Amid the upheaval of the world depicted in this story, the protagonist continues to stand alone, carrying an immense weight within her. In that overwhelming strength, I saw a star. I hope this song finds its way into your heart and lingers there.

Original creator Tomato Soup commented:

It feels as though I’m listening to the story of these women unfold inside a tent on a starlit night. This song, which whispers ‘Don’t forget,’ carries both sorrow and profound strength. Thank you for such a beautiful piece of music.

The newly released preview also includes the opening scenes of Episode 1. Set in 1213 in the eastern Iranian city of Tus, the story follows Sitara after she is taken in by a family of scholars, where she learns the value of knowledge before the Mongol invasion changes her life forever.

The opening theme, “Stella,” is performed by SEKAI NO OWARI. It was previewed in the previous trailer.

The official synopsis:

There was once a young girl in the 13th century slave markets of Iran.
This is the tale of a witch who toyed with a vast continent.
After losing her mother and being torn far from her homeland, Sitara found herself utterly alone.
Still young, with no ability to survive on her own and no hope for the future, she is taken in by Fatima, a kind hearted lady from a family of scholars.
“If you study and become wise, no matter what trouble befalls you, you’ll know the best way forward.”
Deeply moved by the words of Fatima’s son, Muhammad, Sitara came to understand the possibilities and
importance of knowledge and begins to deepen her education.
She dreams that one day, she might catch up with Muhammad, who has set off on a journey in pursuit of wisdom…
Meanwhile, under the reign of Emperor Genghis Khan, the mighty Mongol Empire continues its unstoppable march, conquering nation after nation and expanding its influence across the world.
That boundless ambition finally reaches Sitara’s city. At the hands of the empire’s fourth prince, Tolui, her peaceful everyday life comes to an end.
Having lost everything, Sitara vows revenge against the all-consuming empire.

Additionally, the series will hold a special panel and advance screening at Anime Expo 2026 on July 3 in Los Angeles, featuring executive director Naoko Yamada, director Abel Góngora, and producers from Science SARU and TV Asahi.
