Monkey D. Luffy, the future King of the Pirates from ONE PIECE, got a special illustration to celebrate his birthday in 2025. The celebration arrives on May 5, which coincides with Children’s Day in Japan.
ONE PIECE has previously commemorated numerous characters’ birthdays with illustrations, with some of the previous ones including Shanks, Mihawk, Franky, Vivi and Robin.

ONE PIECE Background
The ONE PIECE manga by Eiichiro Oda first began in July 1997, and the legendary series exceeded 500 million circulating copies worldwide in August 2022. It also celebrated the 25th anniversary in 2022, while the anime adaptation started in October 1999 and is also still going strong.
The manga currently has 1147 chapters, with Chapter 1148 set to release on May 12. The anime is at 1128 episodes as of today. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English, and Crunchyroll streams the anime. They describe the story:

The latest ONE PIECE movie, ONE PIECE FILM RED, grossed over ¥20.3 billion (~$152 million) in Japan, with 1.57 million attendees in the opening weekend, which made the biggest opening-weekend numbers when it comes to both the audience and earnings among films of 2022. It also quickly became the best-performing film in ONE PIECE‘s history.

- The live-action adaptation recently wrapped filming for Season 2 and is expected to arrive soon
- The ONE PIECE BASE app launched in English in February, giving fans a new way to engage with the manga
- The franchise also has the upcoming remake anime by WIT Studio
- The POP MART collaboration launched last month, with other collabs including LEGO, Baskin-Robbins, and Moose Toys
- ONE PIECE has also recently featured numerous sports collaborations, including ones with the NBA (Los Angeles Lakers), MLB (Seattle Mariners), and Bundesliga (Borussia Dortmund).
