The Kaiju No. 8 anime’s ending theme by OneRepublic, titled “Nobody,” has released an official music video. It was revealed after the anime’s final episode on June 29. The video features the band performing in a Karaoke room with Tokyo sceneries and comic-like effects.
“Nobody” by OneRepublic was first released on April 12, 2024, on multiple streaming platforms. It was written by band members Brent Kutzle and Ryan Tedder, together with Joe Henderson, Tyler Spry, and Josh Varnadore. The lyrics and album cover were also previously posted on OneRepublic’s official X (formerly Twitter):
In an interview on the official website, frontman Ryan Tedder shared that “Nobody” was specifically written for the Kaiju No. 8 anime. He said that in Spring 2023, the Kaiju No. 8 team reached out and showed them footage and storyboards of the anime. After seeing the designs that inspired him, Ryan thought about how he wanted the sound of the song to be uplifting, fun, and like a moment of brightness. He said that the song was “as inspired as possible from Japan.”
When asked about the meaning of the song’s title, Ryan described “Nobody” as “I will have your back, I protect you, I will be there for you more than anyone else in the world. There’s nobody that will be there for you like me.” Watch the full interview below:
