I’m no stranger to the woes of lower back pain; even if I wanted to stay up late to play my gacha games or catch up on some ONE PIECE, I would be forced to go to bed early because of my aching back that has been worked up all day. When I learned that I would have the opportunity to try and review the TTRacing X ONE PIECE Maxx Gaming Chairs, I was very excited. What’s more, it was just in time for the anime’s anniversary too!
The Review – Trying TTRacing’s Maxx for the First Time
The chair variant that I picked was no other than the captain himself, Monkey D. Luffy. Right out of the box, the Maxx gaming chair is presented as ten separate pieces that are ready for easy assembly. It was a nice surprise to find a big congratulations card that doubled as an instruction manual on the backside. I also liked how all the screws were already pre-attached to help ease the assembly process (as seen in my unboxing video). Putting it together only took half an hour, and I have my older brother to thank for that.
At first glance, after it’s fully built, the TTRacing Maxx gaming chair is big, sturdy, and very, very, very cool. Luffy’s signature scarlet color is so pleasant to the eyes while the X-shaped design in the middle of the backrest (obviously a reference to the scar on his chest) just hands down, gives me goosebumps. There’s also an embroidery of Meat on the Bone, which is the captain’s favorite food. If you look closer, the mysterious will of “D” and the Gomu Gomu no Pistol punch are also there.
When you turn the chair around, you’ll find the iconic Straw Hat’s Jolly Roger with Luffy’s glorious full name underneath. The black and blue edges (also a reference to his color scheme), together with the yellow straw hat texture, make for a cohesive piece. Most of all, the one thing that puts it all together and makes it ever-so-Luffy, is no other than the real-life straw hat gift that came with the chair. It was here that I absolutely fangirled.
In terms of texture, it feels very “plush” to the touch. This Maxx gaming chair isn’t upholstered with PU leather (Polyurethane leather or synthetic leather) but with what is called Air Threads Fabric, a material described as the perfect combination of smoothness, softness, and breathability. And it’s true – the chair feels like a fluffy cloud that is ready for your long hours of gaming. I’ve been a believer in mesh chair supremacy, but the material of these Air Threads feels so amazing and comfortable that I’m starting to reconsider. You see, most of my worries come from the changes over time, which I’ll mention more of later.
Moving on to the most exciting part of this review – testing out the TTRacing Maxx gaming chair for its comfort and functionality! As a writer for Anime Corner News, a freelance digital artist, and a casual gamer, my chair situation is very important to me because it affects my productivity and stress in one way or another. That’s why I’m happy to share that I’ve had the most incredibly satisfying experience so far with the TTRacing Maxx gaming chair. Put simply, it’s just really comfy, and because of that, everything else follows.
Before this, I never realized how a swivel chair could be so relaxing. I settled into it right away, fully at ease like my back and bottom had found their safe space. As I said earlier, the backrest and seat base were smooth and soft, but the main highlight is something about the frame of the chair that I can’t quite put my finger on. The way it supported my arms, hips, and back encouraged a natural sitting posture that not only hugs the shape of my body but reduces overall tension. It doesn’t feel awkward as if it’s trying to kick me out, but instead, the wide depth of it makes me feel very snug and in place.
Although the backrest is chunky and doesn’t look so breathable, the Air Threads Fabric magically does the job. They did not lie when they said it would make you feel like you’re floating on air while sitting down. The soft memory foam pillows and armrests also greatly make a difference to its overall feel.
Another feature I want to mention in this TTRacing Maxx gaming chair review is how the reclining adjustability is surprisingly smooth. If I wanted to switch between leaning back or sitting straight, the levers are very easy to use and are within reaching distance. The specific reclining tilt of the TTRacing Maxx is 155 degrees, just perfect for those who want to stretch or rest their back with a controller on hand. The balance of the chair is really solid and it doesn’t feel like you’d tip over.
To tell you the truth, I am just in awe of the TTRacing Maxx’s wheelbase. The first gaming chair that I ever purchased retired only after a year because its plastic base broke and collapsed. I was upset; I genuinely lost trust in “gaming chairs,” so I switched back to a classic ergonomic office chair. However, the Maxx gaming chair washed away my worries. Lo and behold, the wheelbase is made of ultra-durable aluminium alloy. And as I mentioned with the reclining feature, it can carry the chair and my weight altogether without a hitch.
The armrest is also very cool – 4D-adjustable cushion armrests that give you all the options for whatever angle is most comfortable for you. I instantly imagined how it could hold my arms nicely while I held my controller, watching some anime, or even just doom-scrolling my reels. Not to sound cheesy, but I think I am falling in love with how this chair makes me feel so safe and secure.
To add to this TTRacing Maxx gaming chair review, I’d also like to share a few things that aren’t exactly a perfect fit for me. For example, I’m 5’3” in height, so I don’t exactly fit into the proportions of the chair which was most likely fashioned for a larger person. I can’t reach the neck pillow (unless I pull it down) and my feet barely touch the floor. Although, this isn’t a major problem for me because I prefer folding my legs or using a footstool, not to mention how I like the spacy feeling.
Another thing I want to add is I move the lumbar memory foam pillow a lot. It’s not uncomfortable or anything; in fact, it’s my favorite piece from the chair. Sometimes I keep it as is to support my hips, other times I raise it a bit to hug my lower back, or sometimes I just hug it. Wherever it is, it’s super comfortable and cozy.
I also think about how the materials and craftsmanship will age over time. To start, the stitches are far from pressured areas so it’s very unlikely to be stretched off (a past experience that happened because of the way I Indian sit). When I push down the foam, I don’t feel the frame directly so I also doubt this would flatten right away. So far, so good. But then, there’s the question of what the fabric would be like in my tropical country with unforgiving heat and humidity.
The fabric has its pros and cons. For example, I’ve noticed that the seatbase isn’t as warm compared to my last PU leather gaming chair, but it’s also not as cool as the breathability that my current mesh office chair has. In terms of its maintenance, fabric is harder to clean as compared to leather (dirt like stains, sweat, etc). For durability, PU leather eventually cracks due to constant use while fabric tends to last longer, especially with regular care. As for comfortability, that actually depends on your preferences. If I were to choose, I think I quite like the fabric’s support and style on my new Luffy chair. I’m hopeful that this chair will be my work and gaming companion for all my adventures, for a very long time.
And the last thing we need to discuss in this TTRacing gaming chair review is the price. The Maxx chair is 21,599.00 PHP (about 384 USD), so it’s not exactly budget-friendly by Filipino/Asian standards (how many sacks of rice worth is this?), not to mention the shipping fee. However, I still feel like the price is great considering the quality of the chair. I also know there are more insane prices of gaming chairs out there, so the price of TTRacing gaming chairs is actually not that bad at all. For a premium “gaming chair” in the market, it is somewhat affordable.
All in all, the chair is nowhere near being hard, suffocating, unadjustable, or just frustratedly unpleasant in every corner – just like the backseat of my aunt’s tacky minivan that gave me whole-body pain and emotional trauma from many years ago (Random comparison, but a valid one for me). Two weeks after my unboxing, I am still very happy with my TTRacing Maxx Gaming Chair.
Final Thoughts – Is the TTRACING Maxx Gaming Chair Worth It?
Everyone deserves a chair that allows you to sit comfortably. In the end, it is more than just a piece of ordinary furniture; it should be THE chair to comfortably support and hold you while you pursue your work, hobby, and lifestyle. If everything I’ve mentioned sounds like something you like and you have the funds for it, then yes, getting the TTRACING Maxx Gaming Chair – Luffy Edition is definitely worth it.
To summarize my review, the TTRACING Maxx Gaming Chair – Luffy Edition features:
- Air Threads Fabric. Despite its chunky shape, the breathable material bonded with cold cure foam makes for a very cozy and soft seating experience. It’s not immune to stains, but the comfort and durability outweigh a PU leather chair.
- Ergonomic. The seat base has a wide and deep design, while the backrest naturally supports your arms, hips, and back. It’s perfect for long hours of working and gaming.
- Big and Cozy. Out of all the TTRacing models, the Maxx chair is the most premium with a size that fits those between the height range of 170 to 200 cm. Although I’m 160 cm (5’3″), I still find it very comfortable. I have my own footstool already, and if you’re like me and like to Indian sit, this chair lets you do that comfortably.
- 155-degree Full Recline. The multi-tilt mechanism is perfect for those who like having a more relaxed and free vibe while sitting. That said, the Maxx gaming chair is not for gamers who prefer a static or fixed sitting position.
- Lumbar and Neck Support. Aside from the ergonomic backrest that uplifts your spine, the gaming chair also comes with a plush memory foam lumbar and neck support pillow. Personally, this is my favorite part of the Maxx gaming chair.
- 4D Adjustable Armrests. Soft cushions that you can move up, down, left, or right, depending on which angles you prefer to rest your arms. I appreciate the adjustability because a small piece of comfort goes a long way.
- Strong Wheelbase. The aluminium base might be the MVP since it effortlessly carries the entire weight of this big chair, myself included. Also, smooth rolling wheels that also have lock features.
- Affordability. For its price of 21,599.00 PHP (about 384 USD), it’s not that bad and is worth the investment for your comfort.
- Style. And lastly, conquer the seas (and fangirl) with the future king of the pirates, Straw Hat Luffy! It’s the throne for those who dream of navigating through epic tales and battles. The straw hat gift that comes with it is the cherry on top.
I’m really impressed with the quality of this chair and my experience with it these last weeks has been awesome. TTRacing may be a bit pricier as compared to an office chair, but the ergonomic features of a gaming chair may be something suited for you too.
