Where to Continue the Frieren Manga After the Anime

With the conclusion of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, you might be looking to continue the manga right after the anime without waiting for the journey to Ende to continue as an anime. The anime by MADHOUSE was an incredible adaptation (even winning the Best Adaptation Award in our 2023 Anime Awards), and it covered exactly 60 chapters. That’s just a bit over 6 manga volumes. If you are going to continue with the Frieren manga after the anime, volume 7 is the answer.

Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End – Volume 7 Manga Cover

The first 3 chapters of the 7th volume are the last episode of the anime. Their titles are “Serie’s Intuition,” “With a Little Help,” and “Departure and Farewell,” with the last one ending after Himmel’s speech about farewells.

Viz Media licensed the original manga in English, and they describe the story of volume 7:
After all the dangers the examinees have faced, passing the first-class mage exam will come down to a simple interview with Serie, whose intuition will determine success or failure. Then, Frieren, Fern, and Stark set out again on the road to Aureole, the land where souls rest. The journey provides new challenges—though the most challenging thing Stark and Fern may have to face is a date with each other!

The Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga is written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. It has been serialized in Shogakukan’s shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday since April 2020. A prequel novel titled Shosetsu Soso no Frieren ~Zenso~ and written by Mei Hachimoku (author of The Tunnel to Summer, the Exit of Goodbyes light novels) will release on April 17. The novel will feature 5 original stories, revolving around Frieren, Fern, Stark, Kanne/Lawine and Aura. The manga’s 13th volume will release at the same time as the prequel novel.

The Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime was voted as the Best Anime of Fall 2023, and it also took the Best Boy (Stark)Best Girl (Fern), Best Adaptation, Best Drama, and Best Opening (“Yuusha” by YOASOBI) awards. In our 2023 Anime of the Year Awards, Frieren won Best New Anime, Best Adaptation, Best Fantasy, Best Adventure, and it was 2nd in Best Drama and 3rd in Best Animation.
