New anime to watch is always a topic of discussion, especially when it comes to getting into new series and recommending things to newbie anime watchers. Considering how many anime titles are produced yearly these days, the sheer amount can be quite intimidating, especially for newcomers. However, quite a few of these productions are sequels to already existing works. Keeping that in mind, we came up with 20 anime that everyone should give a go in anticipation of their upcoming sequels!

Hell’s Paradise

Studio MAPPA’s latest big-name project emerged as one of the hottest new action anime in 2023 and the story is only going to keep getting better. While Hell’s Paradise Season 2 currently has no official release date, fans can catch up on the series in the meantime with all of Season 1 streaming on both Crunchyroll and Netflix.

Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World

Possibly the biggest name in the isekai-fantasy genre to date, the upcoming season of Re:Zero is among the most-anticipated anime to return during the Fall 2024 season. Re:Zero Season 3 is set to release in October 2024 with studio White Fox returning to handle the animation production. All episodes of Re:Zero are available to watch on Crunchyroll.

The best watch order before the Re:Zero Season 3 release is as follows:

  • Season 1 Director’s Cut episodes 1-6
  • Memory Snow movie
  • Season 1 Director’s Cut episodes 7-13

Dr. Stone

Unfortunately, the loveable sci-fi shonen anime series is ending, which means right now is the perfect time to catch up before the final season! Dr. Stone: Science Future (Season 4) currently has no release date. Fans can watch all current episodes of Dr. Stone on Crunchyroll. Each season is labeled as such: Dr. Stone (Season 1), Dr. Stone: Stone Wars (Season 2), Dr. Stone: Ryusui Special (watch between Season 2 and Season 3), and Dr. Stone: New World (Season 3).

Sabikui Bisco

Sabikui Bisco – Anime Trailer

The high-stakes action adventure of Sabikui Bisco is finally returning and is an under-the-radar anime to watch! Sabikui Bisco Season 2 was announced in July 2023 but no official release date has been announced. Studio OZ is returning to animate the series. All of the current 12 episodes of Sabikui Bisco are currently available on Crunchyroll.

Solo Leveling

I think introductions aren’t needed here. One of the most popular anime of 2024 received a Season 2 announcement shortly after the first season’s finale. Solo Leveling Season 2: Arise from the Shadow currently has no release date. Studio A-1 Pictures is returning to animate the sequel. All 12 episodes of Solo Leveling Season 1 are currently available on Crunchyroll.

Ace of the Diamond

It’s been four years since the latest season of Ace of the Diamond ended and our prayers have been answered! Ace of the Diamond: Act II (Zoku-hen) was announced in May 2024 but has yet to reveal an official release date. This will be the longest “catch-up” binge from this list as Season 1 has 75 episodes, Season 2 has 51 episodes, and Season 3 (titled “Act II“) has 52 episodes, all of which are currently available on Crunchyroll. So if you’re in the mood for a high-quality sports anime by Production I.G and Madhouse, look no further!

Wind Breaker

The latest anime from studio CloverWorks was a hit during the Spring 2024 season and they wasted no time with announcing a sequel. Wind Breaker Season 2 is set to release during the Winter 2025 season. All 13 episodes of Wind Breaker Season 1 are currently available on Crunchyroll. The anime came in 2nd for Anime Corner’s Spring 2024 Anime of the Season award, also winning Best Action, Best Soundtrack, Best Voice Cast, and Best Character Design.

Trigun Stampede

The latest project released from the renowned Studio Orange brought forth some of the most gorgeous CGI animation in recent history, even the NFL’s own Los Angeles Chargers referenced it at the very beginning of their 2023 schedule release video. No release date for the sequel project Trigun Stargaze has been announced yet so now is the perfect time to catch up on this new (and phenomenal) take on an original classic! Trigun Stampede is definitely a great anime to watch. Luckily, are currently available on Crunchyroll. (Note*: Original English dub voice actor Johnny Yong Bosch reprised his role as Vash from the original 1998 series!)

Blue Lock

Blue Lock – Anime Trailer

The hit soccer anime burst onto the scene in major fashion back in 2022 and now a new season is on the way this fall! Blue Lock Season 2 is set to release on October 5, 2024, with studio 8bit returning to handle the animation production. My Happy Marriage

One of the most gorgeously produced anime of 2023, thanks to studio Kinema Citrus, is returning for a second season! My Happy Marriage Season 2 hasn’t announced a release date yet so now is the perfect time to watch this wonderful fantasy romance anime! All episodes for the first season of My Happy Marriage are currently available on Netflix.

Apothecary Diaries

The Apothecary Diaries – Anime Trailer

One of the highest-rated anime ever on fan-ranking sites and one of the most popular overall from the past year is on its way for another season. The Apothecary Diaries Season 2 will be released sometime in 2025. In the meantime, do yourself a huge favor and catch up on all 24 episodes from Season 1 that are out now on Crunchyroll!

Call of the Night

A surprise to most, Call of the Night trended after its series premiere due to its beautiful color design around the nightlife setting of the story. Golden Kamuy

You’ve probably seen the memes, and yes, the series is as whacky as they are. But Golden Kamuy is so much more than its awkwardly hilarious moments. The historical action is heading into its final season! All of the seasons are currently available on Crunchyroll, but they are listed simply by episodes (1-49). So if you’re looking for humor and action set during the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905) then get to binge-watching! Golden Kamuy: Saishuushou (Season 5) currently has no release date.

Aharen-san wa Hakarenai

A nice change of pace from all of the others here, the first season of Aharensan by studio Felix Film is a perfect anime to watch right now if you’re looking for a comfy, slice-of-life anime with humorous moments and famous anime references here and there. Aharen-San Season 2 was just announced but currently has no release date. So catch up now with all 12 episodes of Season 1 currently available on Crunchyroll.

Fire Force

It’s finally happening, Fire Force fans. After almost five full years, Fire Force Season 3 will begin airing in April 2025 with studio David Production returning to handle to the animation production. But if you’re new to the series and don’t mind some intense action with iconic sound design and the occasional repetitive fan service, you can catch up on both seasons (48 episodes) that are available on Crunchyroll. (Also, if you’re big into English dub I can’t recommend Fire Force enough.)

Sk8 the Infinity

The anime that brought back many memories of the iconic cartoon series Rocket Power, the first season of Sk8 animated by studio BONES is a perfect binge-watch if you’re looking for something completely different from other anime on this list. Sk8 Season 2 currently has no release date so now’s a perfect time to catch up on the 12 episodes of Season 1 on Crunchyroll. An OVA for the series is also currently on the way.

Rurouni Kenshin

Rurouni Kenshin (2023) – Anime Trailer

Before everyone loses their mind at this suggestion, watching the Rurouni Kenshin anime isn’t stuffing the mangaka’s pockets. The first season of the reboot was extremely well done by the production staff at studio LIDENFILMS. Rurouni Kenshin: Kyoto Arc (Season 2) will begin airing in October 2024 and is a good recommendation if you love historical action series. Considering this is the longest arc of the story, right now is a perfect time to start watching the anime. The entire first season (24 episodes) is currently available on Crunchyroll.

Spy x Family

Arguably the most popular anime since the start of 2020, Spy x Family is riding on the success train that’s showing no signs of slowing down. The wholesome award-winning action-comedy anime by studios CloverWorks and WIT Studio is gearing up for a new season after the release of its recent movie Spy x Family CODE: White. So if you’re looking for an anime that you can even watch with your parents, look no further. Spy x Family Season 3 currently has no release date. Crunchyroll is streaming the first two seasons (37 episodes) of Spy x Family. No announcement has been made when the movie will hit streaming platforms.

One Punch Man

What might be the most anticipated return of the entire list, One Punch Man Season 3 is on its way with studio J.C. Staff returning to handle the animation production. No release date for One Punch Man Season 3 has been announced yet. The first two seasons are currently available on Netflix and Hulu if you want a fun, comedic action series to talk about with your anime friends because it’s more than likely they’ve already seen it.

Kaiju No. 8

Kaiju No. 8 – Anime Trailer

If you’re new to anime, Kaiju No. 8 is a great series to catch up on if you need something to discuss with friends and fans online! The first season released during the spring and could be a possible candidate for anime of the year. Kaiju No. 8 Season 2 was announced and is set to release in 2025.
