Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, a new TV anime project, has been officially announced and is set to premiere in Fall 2026. The announcement was made on January 25, 2026, at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event held at Makuhari Messe in Japan, celebrating the franchise’s 40th anniversary. Prior to the news, Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol sequel anime was announced, along with a new game titled AGE1000 and a new DLC update for DRAGON BALL: Sparking ZERO.
The announcement was made at the Exclusive Announcements! GENKIDASTAGE Part 2 part of the event, where Masako Nozawa, the Japanese voice actress of Son Goku, and Akio Iyoku, Executive Producer of the Dragon Ball series, were again present. Koichi Yamadera, the Japanese voice actor of Beerus, also joined the second part of the event.
It was confirmed that Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is the ENHANCED edition of the TV anime Dragon Ball Super, officially described as a version that “begins anew.” The project, which started several years ago, features Original Work, Story, and Character Design by Akira Toriyama.
Iyoku explained that the ENHANCED edition goes beyond a standard remaster. The series includes a large volume of newly added cuts, revisions to existing scenes, a complete re-rendering of all footage, newly recorded dubbing, additional score and sound effects, and a full reconstruction of the story. He described it as an effort to more faithfully reflect Akira Toriyama’s original ideas and worldbuilding, with a particular focus on intensifying battle scenes through cutting-edge visual expression. Iyoku also stated that Beerus is a powerful enemy and character, and that the production aimed to bring that presence out more clearly in this reconstructed version.

Dragon Ball is a Japanese manga created by Akira Toriyama in 1984. It was serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump from 1984 to 1989. The Dragon Ball Z sequel started in 1989 and ended in 1995. The sequel to Z, Dragon Ball Super started serialization in 2015 and is still ongoing.
The franchise received numerous anime adaptations, with the latest ones being Dragon Ball Super and Super Dragon Ball Heroes. With the latter one being separate from the main continuity, fans have been excited for the story to continue. The Dragon Ball Super TV anime ran from July 2015 to March 2018 for a total of 131 episodes. Crunchyroll streams the anime, for which they describe the story:

The latest movie Dragon Ball Super: SUPER HERO arrived to theaters in August 2022, and it had a strong opening weekend in North America. Dragon Ball also recently finished airing its Dragon Ball DAIMA anime, while it has other projects in development. One of them is the Dragon Ball Theme Park, which is planned to cover 500,000 square meters and be a key part of the Qiddiya City in Saudi Arabia.
Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1, 2024.
