Girlfriend, Girlfriend Episode 4: A Third Girlfriend?!

Girlfriend, Girlfriend episode 4 is now airing! The conflict between Saki and Naoya appears to finally resolve itself! Additionally, Saki and Nagisa find new ways to get along with each other! All seems to be going swimmingly for this trio. However, a new mystery woman arises and threatens to add another twist to this story once again! Let’s look at what just happened in this spoiler-filled discussion!

Happy harmony between lovers!

The start of Girlfriend, Girlfriend’s fourth episode resolves the conflict between Saki and Naoya. Saki confesses that she feels insignificant next to Nagisa, and fears that she will be cast out. However, thanks to the power of healthy conversation, the three manage to find some level of compromise. Naoya reassures Saki that he wants to be with her regardless of what she contributes to the relationship. At the same time, Nagisa and Saki promise to do their role in being good partners.

It’s nice to see things resolve themselves with healthy compromise.

Afterwards, Naoya rests up due to not having slept for an extended period in his pursuit of Saki. This allows for Saki and Nagisa to get some alone time with each other. The two decide to try to bond by playing video games, a hobby Saki is fond of.

Nagisa and Saki bond over gaming!

They play a PUBG-style battle royale type game, and it’s soon revealed that Nagisa is atrocious at gaming. While Saki one-taps heads wherever she goes, Nagisa gets killed in a colorful variety of ways. At one point, Nagisa finds herself with a point-blank shot to make to get her first kill. She, of course, ends up putting a bullet in Saki.

Can you believe Nagisa misses from here?!

The bond between the two girls is strengthened by the experience. Saki even remarks that it’s relieving to find something Nagisa is bad at. For the first time in a while, things are smooth sailing with this little trio!

Three’s a crowd, but four…?

However, it doesn’t take too long for something to throw a spanner in the works. As the trio eats in their usual spot, a cheeky, pigtailed blonde, Rika, stumbles into the warehouse. She takes a good look at them and realizes that they’re all dating each other! The secret is out!

The secret’s out!

Or so it seems, at first! Naoya attempts to bribe her by offering his life savings in exchange for her secrecy. When Rika mentions that money is of no concern to her, the group quickly makes the connection. They realize that Rika is the popular streamer that Saki watches, Milika. By making this connection, the trio has managed to one-up her!

Naoya promises to keep Rika’s secret as long as she does the same thing. Rika is taken by surprise at their kindness, despite being a bunch of “two-timers”. Swept up in emotions, she stands boldly on a set of boxes and makes a declaration to Naoya. “I shall become your girlfriend too!”

“I shall become your girlfriend too!”

How many girlfriends does a man need?!

Girlfriend, Girlfriend episode 4 delivers yet another strong chapter to the story, continuing to show why it’s one of the funniest shows on air right now. Its clever and bold dialogue choices often result in hilarious moments. This, combined with the fact that the show also manages to insert wholesome moments in its runtime, creates a compelling story.

The resolution of last week’s conflict in this episode wrapped things up on that storyline on a very lovely note. It was satisfying to see the trio come to a reasonable compromise regarding their insecurities. It’s refreshing to see mature conversations occur between characters that could so easily choose to be immature and unreasonable. The conflict and resolution they found themselves in hammers home why these three are so fun to watch together.

The potential addition of a third girlfriend to the roster is of slight concern. The dynamic between Naoya, Nagisa, and Saki has been great so far. An additional member threatens to throw that dynamic into chaos. However, there is some potential in the idea of a new character to create some interesting story beats. Time will tell how things develop as the show goes on.

Girlfriend, Girlfriend‘s fifth episode will air on July 31, 2021!
