The upcoming The Eminence in Shadow anime has received a new trailer along with October 5 premiere date. You can watch the video below:
The video features the anime’s opening song titled “HIGHEST“, by OxT. Seven Shades, which consists of voice actors from the series, is performing the ending theme titled “Darling in the Night”. The memebers are:
- Asami Seto as Alpha
- Inori Minase as Beta
- Fairouz Ai as Delta
- Hisako Kanemoto as Epsilon
- Reina Kondo as Eta
- Suzuko Mimori as Gamma
- Ayaka Asai as Zeta
The main cast of the series includes:
- Seichiro Yamashita as Cid Kageno/Shadow
- Rina Hidaka as Claire Kageno
- Kana Hanazawa as Alexia Midgar
- Yoko Hikasa as Iris Midgar
- Haruka Shiraishi as Rose Oriana
- Haruka Shiraishi as Sherry Barnett
Studio Nexus is animating the series with Kazuya Nakanishi as the director.

Daisuke Aizawa first launched the Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! (The Eminence in Shadow) novel series on the Shosetsuka ni Naro website in May 2018. Enterbrain started serializing a light novel adaptation with Tozai’s illustrations in November of the same year, and it currently has 4 volumes in circulation. A manga adaptation by Anri Sakano has also been published on Comp Ace since December 2018, and as of now, it has 7 volumes available. The same publisher is also serializing a spin-off manga titled Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! Shadow Gaiden by Seta U since July 2019, which has 2 volumes at the moment. Yen Press licensed the original The Eminence in Shadow light novel series in English and describes the plot as:
Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind…or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one! And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest. Armed with his overactive imagination, Cid jokingly recruits members to his organization and makes up a whole backstory about an evil cult that they need to take down. Well, as luck would have it, these imaginary adversaries turn out to be the real deal-and everyone knows the truth but him!
