AnimeJapan 2023 - Announcements and Highlights

AnimeJapan 2023 is now over – the whole weekend was filled with special programs dedicated to some of our favorite anime titles. We kept track of the biggest and most significant announcements. We did try to get them all into this feature, but it was nearly impossible, we so encourage you to check out our official AnimeJapan 2023 tag – which contains all the articles we wrote regarding the event.

PSYCHO-PASS: Providence

The newest installment in the PSYCHO-PASS franchise is the Providence movie, which will premiere on May 2 in Japan. Kana Hanazawa, Tomokazu Seki, Kenji Nojima, and director Naoyoshi Shiotani attended the stage. The anime will be celebrating its 10th anniversary with a special event on June 17, but other than that not much was announced.

Tales of Wedding Rings

Tales of Wedding Rings stage had Gen Sato, Akari Kito, Hitomi Ueda, Ai Kakuma, Mikako Komatsu, and Miyuri Shimabukuro. The anime was announced in January. A trailer, along with 2024 release date, was unveiled.

The Elusive Samurai

The recently announced anime revealed details about the main cast: Yuichi Nakamura is voicing Yorishige Suga, while newcomer Asaki Yurikawa is voicing Hokiyuki Tojo.

My Teen Romantic Comedy – SNAFU

Takuya Eguchi, Saori Hayami, Nao Toyama, Ayane Sakura, Chado Horii and Watari Wataru were a part of the stage. The anime is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and fans can expect collabs.

Oshi no Ko

Rie Takahashi, Takeo Otsuka, Yurie Igoma, and Kent Ito were a part of the stage. The anime premieres in April. A new trailer and key visual were unveiled.

Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045

Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 is getting a second compilation movie, which is set to premiere later this year. Ilya Kushinov drew a visual:

TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You Season 2

TONIKAWA: Over The Moon For You Season 2 revealed the opening sequence which features “Setsuna no Chikai’ by Neko Hacker and Tsukasa Yuzaki.

Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2

Jujutsu Kaisen revealed the highly anticipated trailer for the second season ahead of the July premiere, along with staff and additional cast information.

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World-

Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- announced the highly anticipated third season with a teaser video and visual. The light novel illustrator, Shinichiro Otsuka, also drew a celebratory visual.

Overtake

Ei Aoki’s KADOKAWA x TROYCA original TV anime project Overtake unveiled a visual.

Horimiya

Horimiya made fans very happy with a new anime project announcement. Horimiya -piece- will adapt the skipped chapters from the manga that didn’t make it into the first season of the TV anime.

Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning

The upcoming Digimon Adventure 02: The Beginning movie revealed a teaser visual. The premiere date has been set for October 27 in Japan.

Rurouni Kenshin (2023)

The reboot of a popular anime revealed a new trailer, along with some cast additions.

Goblin Slayer

Although it did not have a big stage at AnimeJapan 2023, Goblin Slayer surprised us with an all-new visual ahead of the second season’s premiere.

Undead Unluck

Undead Unluck unveiled yet another teaser visual and October 2023 premiere date. David Production is animating the series.

A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special

Another Korean novel is getting an anime – A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special. Takuma Terashima is voicing Desir Herrman.

Love Live!

The Love Live! franchise went big at this year’s AnimeJapan. Love Live! Nijigasaki High School Idol Club got a trailer and new voice actress for Setsuna Yuki, Genjitsu no Yohane -Sunshine in the Mirror– spin-off introduced more cast while virtual idol project Hasunosora Jyogakuin School Idol Club and upcoming Link! Like! Love Live! mobile app revealed a teaser for the story and opening video.

Netflix Stage

Most of the Netflix stage was dedicated to the upcoming Pluto anime, which got a key visual. Yakitori: Soldiers of Misfortune also got a visual and cast list: one of the characters is voiced by none other than Hatsune Miku. Onmyoji adaptation by studio Marvy Jack revealed a 2023 premiere. Ooku: The Inner Chambers anime was also announced – it is coming to Netflix in 2023.

16bit Sensation

The previously announced 16bit Sensation anime took an unexpected turn: instead of adapting the manga, the anime will feature a new original story. 16bit Sensation: ANOTHER LAYER is the title for the anime, which also revealed a visual:

My Hero Academia

Technically, this was not an AnimeJapan 2023 announcement: My Hero Academia announced the seventh season after the finale of the sixth on Saturday. The anime had a stage on Sunday, but it was mostly dedicated to the sixth season’s highlights.

Chained Solider

Chained Soldier revealed yet another trailer, but the most interesting bit of information was the release date: January 2024. The previous trailer and other promo materials stated that the anime would premiere in 2023, yet this “quiet” delay was never officially mentioned.

The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy

Studio Passione is animating The Demon Sword Master of Excalibur Academy. Check out the newest trailer:

Black Clover

Black Clover also came out of nowhere with a second trailer for the upcoming Sword of the Wizard King movie. The new premiere date is June 16 and Netflix will be streaming it worldwide.

AniRank – Top 10 Manga Fans Want To See Animated

As always, fans got to vote on which manga they would love to see animated. Who Made Me a Princess, Hyperinflation, Nito to Tazuka no Nichijou and Giant Ojou-sama were only some of the titles that made it into the top 10.

Spy x Family

Spy x Family revealed a premiere date for the second season – October 2023, as well as the title of the upcoming movie. CODE WHITE will premiere in December and a teaser visual is now out:

Kawagoe Boys Sing

Music lovers will enjoy the upcoming Kawagoe Boys Sing anime and the first teaser trailer gives a glimpse into what we can expect:

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2

Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation Season 2 revealed a new trailer and yet another teaser visual. The anime will return in July.

Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai

Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out, the upcoming sequel to the popular Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai anime, got a new trailer and a key visual along with a June premiere date. Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid is also in the works, but no definite information yet.

Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha

Yumemiru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha anime is coming this July. The adaptation was announced last year. Studios Gokumi and AXsiZ are animating. Check out the new trailer and visual:

World Star Dai

The upcoming theatre-focused anime revealed a new key visual, ahead of the April premiere date.

The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse

The Seven Deadly Sins: Four Knights of the Apocalypse introduced new cast members in a new trailer. The anime will premiere this October. In addition, The Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh Part 2 revealed a first teaser ahead of the August premiere on Netflix.

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan fans did not get more information about the upcoming finale, but we now know that the anime will be celebrating its 10th anniversary. A special promotional video is now available:

Dark Gathering

Dark Gathering, the upcoming horror anime from OLM, revealed a trailer:
