The upcoming Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End anime revealed two additional characters on Monday along with their voice actors and character designs. Kana Ichinose is voicing Fern while Chiaki Kobayashi is playing the role of Stark. The anime is slated to release on September 29 with a two-hour premiere.
Keiichirou Saito (Bocchi the Rock!) is directing the series at studio Madhouse (A Place Further Than The Universe) with Tomohiro Suzuki (One Punch Man) as the scriptwriter. Evan Call (Violet Evergarden) is composing the music while Reiko Nagasawa (takt op. Destiny) is doing the character designs, based on the manga written by Kanehito Yamada and illustrated by Tsukasa Abe. Atsumi Tanezaki is voicing the titular character Frieren and the rest of the cast includes Nobuhiko Okamoto as Himmel, Hiroki Tochi as Heiter, and Yoji Ueda as Eisen. It also unveiled a visual last month.
The Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga has been serialized in Shogakukan’s Shonen magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday since April 2020. Viz Media is licensing the manga in English and describes the plot as follows:
Elf mage Frieren and her courageous fellow adventurers have defeated the Demon King and brought peace to the land. With the great struggle over, they all go their separate ways to live a quiet life. But as an elf, Frieren, nearly immortal, will long outlive the rest of her former party. How will she come to terms with the mortality of her friends? How can she find fulfillment in her own life, and can she learn to understand what life means to the humans around her? Frieren begins a new journey to find the answer.
