My Hero Academia announced a global popularity poll for characters, titled WORLD’S BEST HERO, following the final chapter of the manga, release yesterday. Kohei Horikoshi’s manga ended its 10-year run after 430 chapters.
The My Hero Academia manga started in 2014 in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. A total of 43 volumes are planned. VIZ Media publishes the English version.
The series received a successful anime adaptation, currently in its seventh season, by studio BONES. In addition to the TV anime which adapts the manga, the franchise also has four original movies. The most recent one, titled My Hero Academia: You’re Next, premiered on August 2 in Japan. The international release is planned for this fall.
In addition to the main story, My Hero Academia also has the Vigilantes manga, with a story by Hideyuki Furuhashi and art by Betten Court.
The plot is set in the future, where nearly every human is born with some kind of supernatural ability, a “Quirk,” and superheroes fight crime and villains while keeping the world at peace. Izuku “Deku” Midoriya is a middle schooler who was always amazed by the Quirks but sadly never presented with one. Still, he wants to become a hero and his dreams are one step closer to reality when he accidentally meets the biggest hero of all time – All Might. All Might is looking for a successor and he sees something in “young Midoriya” that might make him worthy of that position.
