In 2020, ABJ, Authorized Books of Japan, gathered several famous mangakas to launch the STOP! Piracy campaign. It was supposed to raise awareness about the effects that piracy has on the industry. This year, they are back again with “Stop Kaizokuban”, teamed up with even more big manga artists. Among the biggest names, we can find artists like Koyoharu Gotouge (Demon Slayer), Kohei Horikoshi (My Hero Academia), Paru Itagaki (BEASTARS), Hajime Isayama (Attack on Titan), and many many more!
When going to their website, we can see a sign saying the following (rough translation):
Do you know?
If you download manga knowing that the site is illegal, you can be imprisoned for up to two years or fined up to two million yen, or both, if you are found guilty. We didn’t see it. We never saw you become a criminal because of your love for manga.
You can see the official Tweet below:
What’s more, the website claims that “People who search for illegal sites will see this banner ad!“
As we already mentioned before, always support the official releases of manga and anime. We need to help the authors that create stuff that we love, cause if we don’t, we may just end up getting nothing.
