Ave Mujica -The Die Cast- Episode 6 is out now on Crunchyroll and Muse Asia. This article contains spoilers from the episode.
Sakiko and Tomori’s relationship never fails to deliver. While it made my heart full seeing Sakiko kept all of Tomori’s notes, it was sadly short-lived. After Sakiko turned down Tomori’s request to play together like in their old Crychic days, it became clear that Ave Mujica wasn’t just another band to her—it was everything.
“You think being in a band will make me happy?”
That line hits hard. Ave Mujica wasn’t just about music for Sakiko; it was her entire world, and she refused to replace it with something new. But beneath that refusal, there’s something else: exhaustion. From her father’s situation to the band’s break-up, she’s drained from everything that’s happened. However, I think this is a great way to open a new chapter in her story which is rekindling her passion for being in a girls’ band.
While I’d love to dive deeper into Sakiko’s emotions, this episode wasn’t just about her. The real spotlight was on Mutsumi, or rather, Mortis as once again her struggles continued to spiral out of control.
Mortis took center stage once again, and this time, the episode provided deeper insight into what she truly desires. She wants Ave Mujica to continue, which is why she’s desperate for Mutsumi to wake up, pick up her guitar, and bring the band back together. To Mortis, it’s a simple solution but she completely disregards how Mutsumi might feel after everything that has happened. Naturally, this leads to an internal battle, and it was heartbreaking to see someone struggling with a disorder being filmed in public.
Fortunately, thanks to Ave Mujica’s history of theatrical skits, the public mistook the incident as a staged performance teasing a possible reunion, leaving Mutsumi’s mental health struggles unnoticed. At the very least, Soyo’s concern for Mutsumi has been unwavering since the band’s disbandment. While I may have joked about her having a death wish in the last episode for visiting Mutsumi despite her drastic personality shift, Soyo proved herself to be a genuinely brave and caring friend.
What makes Soyo’s actions even more admirable is that she was willing to reach out to Sakiko, hoping to help Mutsumi in any way she could. Despite being previously rejected when she tried to bring Crychic back together, she still put her pride aside for the sake of her friend. I wasn’t exactly a Soyo fan in season one, but this episode really made me appreciate her more. She also became the key player in MyGo finally uncovering the truth about why Sakiko left Crychic in the first place. This might also change MyGo’s perspective about Sakiko entirely but it seems like she doesn’t want to do anything with anyone anymore.
Sakiko’s stage name, Oblivionis, is starting to make more sense as she wants to forget everything. After being confronted by Tomori and Anon about Mutsumi’s situation, she once again chooses to turn a blind eye, pretending none of it matters anymore. Crychic, Ave Mujica, Mutsumi—these were once everything to her, and now watching her try to erase them from her mind is devastating.
I hope the upcoming episodes will explore why Sakiko is so determined to forget rather than face her failures and struggles head-on to grow from them. And if this ties back to her mother’s death, it could add even more weight to her story and make that loss something truly impactful rather than just another tragedy in her past.
Overall, this is the weakest Ave Mujica -The Die Cast- episode so far. Although that’s not to say it was bad, it still upheld the show’s high standards and is still a lot better than most episodes so far this entire anime season. It’s also only natural for it to be slow since it has reintroduced MyGo into the scene. This is one of those “calm before the storm” episodes, the rising action part wherein it sets up for the climax.
I still genuinely enjoyed it and Rana’s part was cute and very pivotal to move the plot forward. The portrayal of Mutsumi’s struggles remained top-tier, and the slow buildup for Umiri and Nyamu’s potential arcs was a nice touch. While Ave Mujica thrives on its horror elements, this episode leaned away from that if we put aside the usual Mortis madness. However, there is one thing that I really find a bit creepy, where is Uika amongst all this chaos?
