Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho is a light novel series written by Moto’o Nakanishi and illustrated by Tamaki. The story was initially serialized online between January 2013 and May 2016 on the user-generated novel publishing website Arcadia, later moving to the Shosetsuka ni Naro website, where it was serialized from December 2015 to October 2016.
Futabasha later acquired the series, publishing fourteen volumes from June 2019 to November 2023. There is also a manga adaptation by Yu Satomi, which has been serialized since September 2021, with 7 volumes released as of September 2024. Volume 8 is scheduled to release on March 19, 2025.
Seven Seas Entertainment licensed both the light novel and manga in English. The publisher describes the story for the light novel:
For generations, a shrine has stood in the mountain village of Kadono, each with its own Itsukihime—shrine maiden—and her guardian. During the Edo period, a young man named Jinta serves as the protector of the town and its Itsukihime. One day, he encounters a peculiar demon in the nearby forest, who foretells that a Demon God will threaten all of humanity in the distant future, originating from their very village. This revelation sets Jinta on a centuries-spanning journey, tainted by demons, as he hunts through time seeking justice for his losses and searching for a reason to continue fighting.
Sword of the Demon Hunter: Kijin Gentosho isn’t the only anime returning in 2025, with Tsuyokute New Saga set to premiere this July after a 2-year delay.
