The TV anime version of Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX will officially begin on April 8 in Japan, following the Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX -Beginning- movie’s theatrical run. It was also announced that the theme song for the TV anime will be “Plazma” by Kenshi Yonezu, continuing from the movie.
The anime is the first-ever collaboration between Studio Khara, known for the Evangelion series, and Sunrise, the studio behind the Gundam franchise. It’s directed by Kazuya Tsurumaki (Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time), with script by Yoji Enokido and Hideaki Anno. The movie is a re-edited version of the TV anime. GKIDS acquired the North American rights for the movie and scheduled a February 28 premiere.

The main voice cast for the anime includes:
- Tomoyo Kurosawa as Amate Yuzuriha (MACHU)
- Yui Ishikawa as Nyaan
- Shimba Tsuchiya as Shuji Ito
The story is described:
Amate Yuzuriha is a high-school student living peacefully in a space colony floating in outer space. When she meets a war refugee named Nyaan, Amate is drawn into the illegal mobile suit dueling sport known as Clan Battle. Under the entry name “Machu,” she throws herself into fierce battle day after day, piloting the GQuuuuuuX. Then an unidentified Gundam mobile suit pursued by both the space force and the police appears before her, along with its pilot, a boy named Shuji.
Gundam is a Japanese mix-media franchise that focuses on mecha robots, created by SUNRISE and Yoshiyuki Tomino. The franchise officially premiered on April 7, 1979, with the Mobile Suit Gundam anime series. It is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. In addition to the popular anime series and spin-offs, the franchise also has manga, novels, video games, and, of course, the popular toys.
