The voice actor of Naruto, Junko Takeuchi, shared that her recording work for the upcoming Boruto anime return was “a lot of work” in her recent appearance at Nostalgia Con 2025. When Naruto dub voice actor Maile Flanagan asked whether the Japanese side had started doing voice work for the second part of Boruto, Takeuchi replied, “For the anime? Parts of it,” per the interpreter (“やって止まってますね [We’ve started and are currently paused]“).

Flanagan added that they haven’t started dubbing on the English side yet, before Takeuchi said, “I see. You’re in for a lot of work.” This marked Takeuchi and Flanagan’s first-ever meeting.
The sequel to Boruto: Naruto Next Generations had been confirmed before the series finale in March 2023. Four special 20th-anniversary Naruto episodes, eventually delayed indefinitely, were scheduled for release in September of the same year.
The then-representative director of Naruto co-producer TV Tokyo, Ichiro Ishikawa, then said in May 2024 that the four episodes would be released within the fiscal year ending March 2025, which has since passed. Little else is known about the production of Naruto and Boruto; popular animator Vincent Chansard said he was open to returning to Boruto if the project aligned with his aims.
