Frieren and the gang are finally back, and their adventure feels as beautiful as ever. After ending the first season on a strong note, Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 opens just the same, with Episode 1 being exactly what you’d hope for from a returning series. The animation remains solid, the character chemistry is still intact, and the overall composition feels just as carefully made.
What made the first season special hasn’t been lost. The parallels between past and present, and the way Frieren’s new party mirrors the hero’s party, continue to give the story its emotional weight. This has always been Frieren’s bread and butter. It’s why Himmel, despite his limited screen time and being alive for like an episode, is such a beloved character. His influence can still be felt deeply within the world of Frieren, and Season 2 treats him with the same care and respect.
One thing that also still stands out is just how creative the storytelling is. The framing of each scene, the quiet interactions between characters, and even the soundtrack harmoniously blend. It feels soothing to watch.
I truly can’t glaze this series enough. I love Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End ever since I first read the manga, and seeing this premiere handled with such care warmed my heart. It feels incredibly rewarding and satisfying knowing that one of your favorite stories is receiving an adaptation filled with this much love, respect, and attention to detail.
I’ve said previously that the first season of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End is close to perfection, and Season 2 is definitely living up to those standards. Even with a new director at the helm, the series just doesn’t miss, and it remains consistent in what made it such an amazing anime to begin with. If anything, it feels better than ever as it builds upon what came before instead of trying to reinvent it. Watching this episode, it genuinely felt like Frieren never left at all.
Anime Corner was given an advanced screening of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End Season 2 Episode 1 for review. The series is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
