A new short anime created for the Evangelion series’ 30th anniversary will be released publicly on March 8 through Studio Khara’s official YouTube channel.

The roughly 15-minute short was originally screened during the anniversary event EVANGELION:30+; 30th ANNIVERSARY OF EVANGELION, held from February 21 to 23. At the time, the video was presented as a special limited screening only available to attendees of the festival.

The project features series creator Hideaki Anno as planner, scriptwriter, and general supervisor. Naoyuki Asano, who served as animation director on EVANGELION:3.0+1.0 THRICE UPON A TIME, directed the short anime.

According to the official announcement, the public release date was chosen because March 8 marks the fifth anniversary of the theatrical release of EVANGELION:3.0+1.0 THRICE UPON A TIME.

The organizers also addressed issues that occurred during the event, noting that unauthorized recordings were made in areas where filming was prohibited and some footage had circulated online. The statement asked fans to refrain from spreading leaked material and instead watch the official version when it becomes available on YouTube.

Neon Genesis Evangelion first aired in 1995 and became one of the most influential anime franchises in Japan. The series later expanded through films, including the Rebuild of Evangelion movie series, which concluded with EVANGELION:3.0+1.0 THRICE UPON A TIME in 2021. A completely new anime series was recently announced, with game creator Yoko Taro writing the script and series composition at studios CloverWorks and Khara.
