Studio TRIGGER has introduced the third CYBERPUNK EDGERUNNERS 2 main character, the young cinephile called Roman Carax. Fans at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival had the chance to see a teaser earlier this week, while the main announcement is set for June 29.
The new anime will be a 10-episode story from the world of Cyberpunk 2077, earlier described as “a raw chronicle of redemption and revenge”. It will be directed by Kai Ikarashi, who directed Episode 6 of the original anime titled “Girl on Fire.” Ichigo Kanno is the character designer, while screenplay will be handled by Masahiko Otsuka. It was also previously confirmed that Netflix will be streaming the new series.
Roman was revealed in collaboration with @foioguto on Instagram. His description:
“A young cinephile searching for real stories. In a city that abandoned cinema for neurodance. Obsessed with documenting the truth, he closely follows the lives of other people.”
The official Edgerunners X account teased the character with “A witness to every gig’s cost, every fall, and every legend.”
Previously, the anime introduced Weak Kingsley and the revenge-driven netrunner D. Check out the updated teaser image below featuring the three characters below.

CD PROJEKT RED (or CDPR) is the company behind the Cyberpunk 2077 video game. Studio TRIGGER also animated the first CYBERPUNK: EDGE RUNNERS anime series, which was released in September 2022 and also had a total of 10 episodes. The franchise recently launched a prequel manga focused on Rebecca and Pilar last December..
The first anime was voted as the Best New Anime of the year in our yearly awards for that year, as well as the Best Original Anime. Netflix is streaming the show, describing its story:
The series tells a standalone, 10-episode story about a street kid trying to survive in Night City — a technology and body modification-obsessed city of the future. Having everything to lose, he stays alive by becoming an edgerunner — a mercenary outlaw also known as a cyberpunk.
