OceanVeil Adds Chainsmoker Cat to Its Summer Lineup

WWWave Corporation’s OceanVeil has announced that it will stream the anime adaptation of NyanNyanFactory’s Chainsmoker Cat. The streaming service will debut the anime on July 2 at 9:00 a.m. PDT.

Chainsmoker Cat will have two versions, a slightly censored/edited “On-Air” version and an uncut and unedited “Evil Dragon.” While the source manga does not include the gratuitous nudity that often prompts the release of dual versions of an anime, it does depict heavy use of alcohol, tobacco, and illicit substances.

Chainsmoker Cat Details

Weekly Young Magazine (Kodansha) has serialized NyanNyanFactory’s (author and illustrator) Yani Neko since February 2023. Kodansha has since compiled the manga’s individual chapters into 12 tankobon volumes. Seven Seas Entertainment licensed the manga for an English North American release in February 2025.

Bibury Animation Studios will handle the Chainsmoker Cat adaptation. Takuya Kimura will direct the anime. The anime’s announced voice cast includes

• Ayaka Shimizu as Kansai Neko
• Shiori Izawa as Al Neko
• Riko Akechi as Tatsuro Ochinpo
• Tetsu Inada as Landlord

Wasureuanneyo will perform the anime’s opening song, “Nanmonee.” Rock band Necry Talkie, who performed the opening song to Girlfriend, Girlfriend, will perform Chainsmoker Cat‘s ending theme song, “Kemuri to Blue.” Additional staff and anime details can be found here.

Chainsmoker Cat follows the life of the deadbeat cat girl, Yani. “Addicted to nicotine,” “a slob by nature,” and “an apartment permanently stained by cigarette smoke” are ways to describe Yani and her life. But despite being out of a job, behind on her rent, and having zero regard for her cleanliness, her friend believes in her and constantly helps Yani get her life together (#thepoweroffriendship). But when someone’s picking up cigarette butts off the ground to get a fix, how much help can that person get?
