Written by Anime Corner

The upcoming 4K re-release of Ninja Scroll (Jubei Ninpucho) has revealed its official trailer, giving a new look at Yoshiyaki Kawajiri’s 1993 anime film ahead of its limited theatrical return in Japan this September.

The trailer also showcases Kawajiri’s dynamic direction, which helped establish Ninja Scroll as one of the most influential action anime films of the 1990s. You can check it out below.

Set during Japan’s Sengoku period, Ninja Scroll follows masterless swordsman Jubei as he joins forces with Koga kunoichi Kagero to uncover a conspiracy led by the immortal Genma Himuro and his elite group of powerful warriors.

The 4K remaster will screen in Japanese theaters for two weeks starting on September 4. The revival is part of Filmarks’ ongoing theatrical restoration project, following its previous re-release of Kawajiri’s Vampire Hunter D. Additional participating theaters are expected to be announced later, while exclusive admission bonuses will also be distributed at select locations.
