Isekai Maou episode 9 of the second season is ready for streaming. Other titles include Isekai Maou to Shoukan Shoujo no Dorei Majutsu Ω or How NOT to Summon a Demon Lord. So after the events of last week, Lumachina is dragged away to a secret room by the rogue cardinal Vishos. Meanwhile, Diablo gets thrown into a prison cell, along with most of his cohorts.
Horn alone becomes the only one to escape the treacherous trap. Now it’s up to her to decide if she wants to rescue her newfound friends. Or does she stick with the way she has always lived and run while she can? An episode of tremendous importance as this looks to be the penultimate episode of season 2.
We get 2 differing perspectives for the majority of the episode. On one hand, we get to see Diablo, Rose, Shera, and Rem as they contemplate what to do. Dealing with their own problems they know that at least Rose or Diablo can escape seemingly at will. However, Diablo wants to honor Lumachins’s wishes and holds for the time being.
The other perspective is Horns, as she turns into a panic about what she wants to do. She knows the smartest thing to do is flee, knowing she’s weaker than the rest. However, she begrudgingly knows that she just made these friends and wants to save them too. Pain sweeps over her face as she racks her brain trying to figure out a solution.
Luck would have it that she already accidentally found the answer. So the treasure she took from Diablo’s vault was in fact the Holy Grail of leveling up for some reason. The guardian goddess Babalon, who’s dressed like a schoolgirl (again for reasons), comes to the rescue. She says she can grant Horn the power to “evel-up” beyond her current limitations.
This is because that the sacrifice for using the grail is the ‘blood of a maiden’. Horn while looking for a bathroom (kind of) filled the requirement on accident. Babalon gifts her the blessing of her power but to no avail. Turns out she just missed the mark, but no worries there is a backup plan. Babalon can sense the power-up abilities of another vessel nearby.
Horn finds the slave collar from a previous episode, which is this mystery item. Should she use it, she will finally become useful she imagines. If she can pay the cost that their lives are bound, she will level up with the power of her new Master Diablo. However, if she doesn’t she will be free but abandon her friends. She hesitates but refuses to lose the ones she cares about and accepts the collar’s power with the cost.
This works, and it works super well. Horn Quadruples her current power level and unlocks the new ability of charmed. As long as she says anything in a cute way she can make people do whatever she wants. Super useful, she waltzes into the prison to rescue Diablo and her new friends.
This was a super great way to get a new character some much-needed screen time. Horn has been fairly integral for the story of this season and this was her time to shine. Her new ability combined with her efforts awaken Diablo and allow him to find his own self. A worthy episode to raise excitement before next week’s finale makes Isekai Maou episode 9 a great watch.
