The preview images for episode 1 of the upcoming The Eminence in Shadow anime have been released. The anime will premiere on October 5, 2022, and we will see the beginning of Minoru Kagenou’s story as one of the strongest men in the shadows. Kazuya Nakanishi is directing the series at studio Nexus. The anime will be streaming on HIDIVE.

The anime is based on Daisuke Aizawa’s Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! (The Eminence in Shadow) light novel series. The series features Tozai’s illustrations and it currently has 4 volumes in circulation. Kadokawa Shoten started publishing a manga adaptation in December 2018, and as of now, it has 7 volumes available. A spin-off manga titled Kage no Jitsuryokusha ni Naritakute! Shadow Gaiden by Seta U has also been serialized by the same publisher since July 2019, which has 2 volumes right now. Yen Press is publishing the original The Eminence in Shadow light novel series and describes the plot as:
Even in his past life, Cid’s dream wasn’t to become a protagonist or a final boss. He’d rather lie low as a minor character until it’s prime time to reveal he’s a mastermind…or at least, do the next best thing-pretend to be one! And now that he’s been reborn into another world, he’s ready to set the perfect conditions to live out his dreams to the fullest. Armed with his overactive imagination, Cid jokingly recruits members to his organization and makes up a whole backstory about an evil cult that they need to take down. Well, as luck would have it, these imaginary adversaries turn out to be the real deal-and everyone knows the truth but him!
