Veteran mangaka Eiji Kazama has died at the age of 75 due to pancreatic cancer. The announcement was made by the editorial department of Shogakukan’s Big Comic Original manga magazine. According to the announcement, the funeral for Kazama will be attended only by relatives.
Eiji Kazama was born on June 10. 1947 in Tokyo. His first work was a manga titled Sono Na wa Zero (1966), but he received recognition with Eiko e no 5000 Kilo in 1969, which was serialized in Shonengahosha’s Shonen King magazine.
Kazama’s manga works have revolved around the seinen and sports genres. He is known for the manga Dr. Typhoon, which is a golf-themed manga that he illustrated. The manga, written by Michitsuna Takahashi, was serialized from 1986 to 1991. It inspired an original video animation project which aired in the spring of 1991. He did the art for the long-running golf manga Kaze no Daichi alongside Nobuhiro Sakata, which has been serialized by Big Comic Original since 1991. The manga won the 39th Shogakukan Manga Award in the general category.
Other manga Eiji Kazama created include Inaka no Denpo (1987), Warera Kyuunin no Koshien (1996), Hikari no Sora (2001), and Kirishima Ranji (2013). His most recent manga releases include Daichi no Ko Yuu and Tama wo Hinichi, both released in 2018; as well as Daichi no Ko Sumire (2020).
