The Legendary Hero Is Dead - A Ridiculous Comedy We Need Right Now

The Legendary Hero Is Dead anime recently premiered and although I am over my generic-ecchi-comedy-fantasy phase I decided to give this series a go because the (radishes in the) opening caught my attention. And I have to say: I am glad I did because this show is an absolute riot.

Beautiful radish

If you are looking for an elegant critique of the genre or a detailed battle between good and evil – move on, you will not get that here. The Legendary Hero Is Dead is heavily focused on comedy to the point where the main plot becomes absurd. Touka lives as an average farmer with somewhat peculiar tendencies regarding tighs until one day a demon army attacks his village.

The village gets saved by a legendary hero, however, he ends up falling to his death in a trap that Touka set up to protect his radishes. Horrified, Touka and the villagers bury the body, ready to hide the truth forever. But, the morning after Touka wakes up in the hero’s (rotting) body. As it turns out, a necromancer was accompanying him. And it just gets wilder from there, because Touka’s personality doesn’t really match the dead hero’s, and nor does his mana.

Visually, The Legendary Hero Is Dead is nothing special and it looks like your typical run-of-the-mill LIDEN FILMS anime. Its strength lies in the humor, the way the jokes are delivered, and the characters that are able to pull them off (complete with some solid voice acting). If you are looking for something mindless to have fun with this season, definitely check out this anime. And a good place to start is the opening which features Masayoshi Oishi’s “Shinda!”:
