21 – Fuuka Yamagishi
Persona 3 Reload dropped the ball with Fuuka and it’s incredibly upsetting. She’s presented early on as a sickly, frail individual. Once we get to know her in the story, we learn that she has a desire to be useful to those around her and has some skills when it comes to computers and technology. However, nothing in her link really explores that much. The bulk of the link is her lamenting that she doesn’t do enough for others, first expressed through her trying to learn how to cook better. I appreciate this aspect of her arc, and it’s endearing.
But she faces a problem that, in my opinion, plagues many of the female Social Links in this game: she falls in love with you. This budding romance occupies time in her Link that ought to have been spent on other things. She’s unique amongst the team in that she didn’t experience the terrible tragic death of someone close to her. This gives her a unique, though intriguingly common, view on the supernatural events of the series. I would have loved to see this explored more but the Link simply doesn’t do it.
