The anime is based on a light novel written by SunSunSun and illustrated by Momoco. The novel was initially published online as two short stories on Shosetsuka ni Naro in May 2020, while Kadokawa acquired it in 2021. SunSunSun commented:

“Thanks to everyone’s support, Season 2 of Roshidere will finally air next year!
…Hm? What is it, Director? You want me to read this aloud?
Let’s see…
‘The anime-original scenes in Roshidere Season 2 are mostly written by the original author. So for those familiar with the source material, please don’t jump to conclusions like, “What is this anime-original content? Is the studio just doing whatever it wants?”’

…Yeah, basically, we’re all working together with mutual respect. So please continue supporting us!”

Comment from Kohei Amasaki (Voice of Masachika Kuze)

“Happy 1st anniversary to the Roshidere anime!
I’m thrilled that we get to share the exciting news of Season 2 at such a perfect time.
I’m already looking forward to what happens next—I have so many favorite scenes I want to see animated!
And most importantly… we get to see Alya being cute again!! That’s the best part.

If you haven’t watched Season 1 yet, I highly recommend catching up before Season 2 airs.
Let’s all look forward to the 2026 broadcast together! I’ll be putting my all into playing Masachika again, so please stay tuned!”

Comment from Sumire Uesaka (Voice of Alisa Mikhailovna Kujo / Alya)

Я очень счастлива!!
It’s finally, finally happening, Roshidere Season 2 is on the way!
I’m so excited I can hardly wait!
I’m really looking forward to reuniting with Alya and the rest of the cast.

Even after Season 1 ended, I kept hearing people say, “Alya is so cute!” and “I can’t wait for Season 2!”
As both a cast member and a fan, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the continuation.
I’ll do my very best to bring out Alya’s charm again, please look forward to it!”

Kodansha’s Magazine Pocket is serializing the manga adaptation by Saho Tenamachi, which was launched in October 2022. Yen Press licensed the novel in English, while Crunchyroll streams the anime.

The romcom follows Masachika Kuze, a genius with a sad past, as he sits next to a Russian beauty that flirts with him in Russian. She has no idea that he actually understands the language, leading to some awkward moments for Masachika. There is also his sister, Yuki Suo, who shares the past but still openly expresses her love for her brother and causes even more awkward situations for everyone.
