Last month, 15 specialty streaming services, including the anime services HIDIVE and Crunchyroll, announced the formation of the specialty streaming advocacy coalition Beyond Mainstream: A Global Streaming Alliance. Per its media release, Beyond Mainstream aims to “provide a unique, collective voice for specialized services in the streaming industry. The coalition will work to ensure a more equitable regulatory environment where members have a strong collective voice in global regulatory and policy debates.”

The full list of streamers is: AMC Networks’ Acorn TV, ALLBLK, HIDIVE, Shudder, and Sundance Now; Crunchyroll; NDM+; OUTtv; Pure Flix; Rakuten Viki; The Roku Channel; SonyLiv; Sony One; Tubi; and Zee5. It will advocate for “fair and proportionate regulations for these specialized platforms, ensuring viewers everywhere can continue to choose and access a diverse range of content and streaming options,” ensuring that “specialized and regional platforms – and the diverse audiences they serve – are not overlooked.

Nijel de Mesa, President/CEO of NDM+, said in the media release, “This coalition is especially timely as new systems for digital democracy and global governance are on the horizon. Beyond Mainstream will foster mutual cooperation so members can act together to secure a vibrant and sustainable future for streaming in the global entertainment landscape.

Streaming industry consultant Dan Rayburn shared on LinkedIn that the PR firm representing Beyond Mainstream says there is no single company leading the alliance, nor is there an executive director.

In other anime streamer news, Crunchyroll recently announced at CCXP its acquisition of Tamon’s B-Side (December 31 premiere); Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None (January); Welcome to Demon School! Iruma-kun Season 4 (April); Kujima: Why Sing, When You Can Warble? (April); Bungo Stray Dogs WAN! 2 (2026); and The Drops of God (2026).

Meanwhile, HIDIVE confirmed ahead of Anime Frontier (December 13–15) its full range of new January acquisitions: Chained Soldier Season 2, HELL MODE: The Hardcore Gamer Dominates in Another World with Garbage Balancing, and Reincarnated as a Dragon Hatchling. Per a press release, dub screenings for My Gift Lvl 9999 Unlimited Gacha, Hero Without a Class: Who Even Needs Skills?!, and Dusk Beyond the End of the World will be held free for all Anime Frontier badge holders. North American premiere screenings of all of HIDIVE’s January simulcasts will similarly be held; Yukana, the voice of Chained Soldier‘s Fubuki Azuma, will attend the anime’s screening.
