Netflix is developing a live-action TV adaptation of Atlus and SEGA’s Persona franchise, according to a report from Variety.

The project is being written by Christopher Monfette, who is also attached as showrunner and executive producer. Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood will executive produce through 21 Laps, alongside Dmitri M. Johnson, Michael Lawrence Goldberg, and Timothy I. Stevenson for Story Kitchen. Toru Nakahara will serve as executive producer on behalf of SEGA.

Variety also states that Netflix declined to comment on the report.

Originally launched in 1996 as a spin-off of the Shin Megami Tensei series, Persona has grown into one of gaming’s most successful RPG franchises. Each mainline entry follows high school students balancing everyday life, friendships, and supernatural conflicts, with gameplay combining dungeon exploration and social simulation.

The franchise currently includes six numbered titles and numerous spin-offs. The most recent release, Persona 5: The Phantom X, launched in 2025, while Persona 4 Revival is scheduled for February 2027. Atlus also confirmed in June that Persona 6 is in development.

If the series moves forward, it will join Netflix’s growing lineup of video game adaptations, which includes live-action productions such as The Witcher and animated projects including Arcane, CYBERPUNK: EDGERUNNERS, and Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.

Monfette’s previous work includes 12 Monkeys, Star Trek: Picard, and 9-1-1, and is also attached to Marvel Studios’ upcoming Disney+ series Vision Quest. Meanwhile, 21 Laps is best known for producing Netflix’s Stranger Things, while Story Kitchen has built its slate around game adaptations, including the upcoming live-action Tomb Raider and Life Is Strange series for Prime Video.
