4 – Shinjiro Aragaki
Aragaki is a favorite of mine for a lot of reasons. For one, despite sharing the same (Japanese) voice actor as Zoro from One Piece, Aragaki is a cook, like Sanji. That aside, I really appreciated Aragaki for being the only member of the team to not have complete control of his Persona. In this way, he was a lot like the members of Strega and was living on borrowed time just like them. Despite that, he decided to use his remaining time for SEES and for Amada rather than acting like Takaya and bringing the entire world down with him. As I’ve mentioned earlier, his Link Episodes develop not just him, but Sanada and Mitsuru as well.
All three of them gain additional senses of purpose through Aragaki’s Link, but for Aragaki himself his considerate and protective side contrasts nicely with his otherwise abrasive personality. He provides yet another vision for contending with not only your own death but also your own sins. It’s a sad Link to see play out, especially once you finish it and it becomes clear that Aragaki plans on letting Amada kill him in revenge. But in a game that’s all about acting on the boundaries between life and death while searching for a purpose in both, Aragaki is one of the best.
