20 – Maiko
Maiko is adorable, but her Social Link is honestly a bit weird. The earlier portion of it is where it earns points. Maiko is a sweet kid whose parents have fallen out of love and decided to get a divorce. She, as a grade-schooler, is understandably upset about this. She blames herself at times, wondering if her parents don’t love her anymore, and struggles to keep positive. The protagonist acts as an older brother and source of comfort to her.
Then, after she asks her parents why they were getting a divorce and her father hits her, she decides to run away from home. You aren’t actually able to stop her from doing this, which bothered me a bit, but you do help her parents find her, after which they finally split up and she moves away with her mother. While Maiko’s Social Link is nice and wholesome, the latter few ranks of it focus too much on the running away and such and take away from the rest.
