Japanese animation studio Pierrot and South Korean animation studio Red Dog Culture House (RDCH) signed a business alliance agreement in August 2024 for the production and investment of animation targeting the global market through a production committee.

Pierrot and RDCH intend to jointly produce works over the next three years with a production committee formed between the companies in Japan. The companies intend to produce an adaptation of RDCH’s original webtoon IP Latna Saga: The Survival Sword King as their first cooperative project, with full-scale production intended to begin this year. The companies are considering adapting both Japanese manga and Korean webtoons in the future of their collaborative initiative.

RDCH President & CEO Bae Ki Young (배기용) and Pierrot President & CEO Kazumichi Ueda (上田憲伯) spoke with enthusiasm about their cooperation, with Bae saying that he’s excited to demonstrate the capabilities he and his team have cultivated over the years, and Ueda saying that he was captivated by the quality of RDCH’s animations and the personality of its CEO and team. According to Ueda, the studios are holding daily meetings to ensure the quality of the upcoming “Latna Saga” work and hopes that fans from around the world look forward to it.

Pierrot is known for producing long-running series like Bleach, Naruto, and Black Clover, as well as historically works like Urusei Yatsura, Yu Yu Hakusho, and Great Teacher Onizuka.

Red Dog Culture House is known for producing works like The Girl Downstairs, the Canadian-Korean series Dragon Age: Absolution, and the second season of the Chinese series Heaven Official’s Blessing. RDCG also publishes webnovels and webtoons.

Recently, Pierrot also formed a business alliance with Japanese studio Asahi Productions with the intent of strengthening stable productions and high-quality works through each studio’s strengths: Pierrot’s capacity for long-form production, and Asahi Production’s comprehensive photography, editing, and CG animation departments.
