6. “The Trembling Police Headquarters: 12 Million Hostages” — Episode 304

With the amount of cases that Shinichi and the Police get involved in, fans have pushed for classic police stories that aren’t resolved in one episode. In fact, we received an incredible amount of cases that required a major force instead of the small and contained districts, including explosions, ransoms, or missing in action.

Unlike other episodes, like the Black Organization, it proved how essential the Police are and that these stories are just as important as the main plot and the coming battle. In this episode specifically, Tokyo was under threat of a mad bomber that was ready to return after successfully murdering Jinpei Matsuda: Sato’s former partner.

When Takagi and Conan got stuck in the rigged elevator, it was absolutely infuriating. They were defusing the bomb and decided to try waiting for the hints that only came near detonation, like Jinpei. Luckily, Conan figured it out with only half the code, but honestly, it was super stressful to anyone like Sato, who had to re-experience the terror and anger. She nearly allowed her feelings to swallow her up, as she cornered the suspect and realized that it was time to let go of those negative memories.

Throughout Takagi and Sato’s journey, this was the most pivotal moment and solidified their trust to another level. Fans will agree that the rookie and senior officers have inspired other police stories in honor of their successful milestone. From almost getting forced to marry or overcoming fears of death, their bond was worth the wait and a perfect example of their mature dynamic. I mean, who wouldn’t support the balance of being independent while still knowing when to lean on someone else? Takagi knew when to be patient, yet was the most sincere even in confronting his senior officer.
