9. Detective Conan Movie 4: Captured in Her Eyes
Out of the 29 plus movies, I couldn’t pass up on the thrilling police story that seemingly made the police unreliable allies. Unlike previous encounters where they’re usually providing details on the cases, this one provided more secrecy against possible traitors in the force. The quote “need not to know” made fans speculate on the department’s direction as either allies or enemies, kinda like how Gotham Police first viewed Batman the Caped Crusader. With no one to trust completely, Conan was left lingering about the dying message and seeking other sources like journalist Tamaki Imoto, leaving absolutely no room to stop thinking or doubting.
I also thoroughly enjoyed the extended look at Shinichi and Ran’s adventure at Tropical Land, before Shinichi’s transformation into Conan. The movie’s theme of trust was already bad enough, and then takes away the karate master (Ran) that we’re used to seeing by removing her memories. Throughout all their adventures, this movie served as a pivotal foundation with the extended look and the recollection when they defeated the culprit at Tropical Land. We didn’t just see a flashback; the movie finally delivered the emotional payoff fans craved, giving us the classic Coca-Cola, the Fountain Sprinklers, and Ran’s favorite picture together.
Honestly, if the series does a full circle by confronting the Black Organization at the amusement park and a possible proposal, fans will erupt in waves of tsunamis. What are some of your favorite Shinichi and Ran moments? Do you prefer their high-stakes movie drama or the quieter moments in the series?
