7. Lawyer Kisaki’s SOS (Episodes 901-902)
Episodes Plot: In this two parter, Eri Kisaki has been kidnapped by previous defendants who lost against her in divorce cases. Conan, Ran, and Kogoro have to discover where she is through the small clues of her style of communication, along with the clever uses of casing the environments.
Mouri Kogoro and Eri Kisaki have fought countless times, and would do anything to avoid meeting up, but it’s amazing to notice their feelings for one another in such high regard. There have been so many events where the two had to defend each other in cases, including “Scuba Diving Murder Case” (114-115), “Mouri Kogoro, Suspect” (199-200), or “The Worst Birthday” (589-590). Looking back on their journey, there’s one specific moment that I loved watching and decided to go with “Lawyer Kisaki’s SOS” (901-902).
For starters, they’re usually arguing about something and tend not to be sincere, but Kogoro was very direct this time. When he finally found her location, there was no other way into the building and he decided to climb the metal pipe up four stories. Many fans know that he has an insane fear of heights and would usually faint, yet this time he overcame his fears for Eri. What’s more, he even rejected the Police Officer request for questioning because he prioritized spending the night with his wife and even grabbed her hands. Although they ended up arguing (again) at their dinner date, it showed significant progress and perhaps the day when they finally stop being such hotheads and move back in together!
I also loved how the case handled the discovery of the true Eri Kisaki, when it mirrored the amount of spam accounts in today’s modern world. Eri’s phone was being used by the kidnappers in order to drive off suspicion, yet Conan and Ran knew who the real Eri was through her habits of the American styled commas and word choices. This was a brilliant concept because it’s a simple, intimate detail you only recognize when you truly love someone. After all, if you had a special quirk wouldn’t it make it easier to know who’s who? Relying on someone’s specific speech pattern is absolutely brilliant.
