Celebrating 30 Years of Detective Conan: Top 10 Iconic Moments

5. The Black Organization’s Scheme — Episodes: 1077th, 1078th, and 1079th

To this point, no organization like the FBI, CIA, or Black Organization have truly felt defeat, especially since the movies aren’t canon to the main story. The majority of battles are usually tied, with someone faking their deaths or getting away at the last second, until Gin’s forces finally cracked the secret meeting codes between the FBI and crushed a significant amount of their forces.

It was quite surprising to see the series reaching this point, with the climax bringing the real boss and Rum’s true appearance. With the remaining numbers in hiding and awaiting another re-match since these episodes, we can only expect a more devastating scenario where nobody forces a tie nor survives.

Rum’s appearance and identity guessing was highly anticipated, almost rivaling the energy that fans felt since the Vermouth arc. He quickly proved his position as the second-in-command by outclassing three of the smartest characters in the series history, Gin, Yusaku, and Akai. First off, you don’t just magically return and precisely outmaneuver geniuses that even Conan struggles against. Rum was much faster and calculative in his plans, seeing past the save attempts that Yusaku and Akai were handling.

Not even Gin was safe from his ruthlessness, as Rum suggested a better plan to lure out the FBI agent Camel by burning the island instead of frantically searching until daylight. Again, how do you outclass three of the greatest minds, and return with a proper role instead of cameos and guessing at his true identity. Fans were already losing it with the reveal and how they could have missed it, when Rum was first introduced then.

My final reason goes to the survival of FBI agent Camel, with the help of Yusaku, Conan, and Akai. Despite Rum’s superior chess-like moves, Camel had to be resourceful and do anything to fool them. From the uses of camouflage, burying yourself and having a straw for air, to precisely faking death in front of Gin and Vermouth, how could you not be entertained? I mean, you would think that after a few false deaths that they’d know better? Anyway, I loved the variety of survival tactics and plot combined, especially when you compare Conan with his prepared gadgets, it was a nice change of pace to be more improvising.
